Christian, like Lino and Pietro, is from the region of Lombardi, on the north side
of Lake Como, Italy. There he attended culinary school and in the following fifteen years received much acclaim cooking in the most prestigious restaurants and hotels from Bellagio, Bormio, Livegnio and Aprica to Milano. He also exhibited at the Soundrio Cook School in 2009.
I believe in using fresh, seasonal ingredients from local farms, and I enlist time-honored traditions from my native Italy to create amazing food. My philosophy extends to every homemade item in the restaurant from the airy pastas, breads, gelato and the most decadent Tiramisu.

Eat, Drink, Grow Santa Fe
How do you breathe new life into a local institution? If you’re Lino Pertusini, you find a compatriot from the same Lake Como region of Italy, and put him at the helm of Osteria D’Assisi. Introducing executive chef Cristian Pontiggia, recently immigrated (by way of Taos) to Santa Fe. He throws a mean pizza dough (literally), has chef-worthy ink, and is producing some stunning classic italian plates.

Alive and Cooking
Osteria d’Assisi is conspicuously located on South Federal Place, across from the magnificent shaded lawn of the U.S. District Court. The restaurant’s charming interior has made it a favorite for special-occasion dinners — birthdays, anniversaries, first dates — for the 20 years it’s been in business. The food is, of course, Italian, but this isn’t a classic red-sauce restaurant. And the cuisine’s not as northern Italian in style as you might expect from a place whose owner, Lino Pertusini, and executive chef, Cristian Pontiggia, both hail from the Lake Como region of Lombardy.

A Culinary Hero
If someone decided to write a comic book about a super hero chefs, it would probably be set in Santa Fe. The City Different is blessed with both an amazing array of exceptional restaurants, and cadre of young and attractive , not to mention generous chefs - a sort of culinary all-star team. Among the ranks of these hunger-fighting heroes is Cristian Pontiggia, executive chef of Osteria d'Assisi, a soft-spoken but determined champion with a big heart, goddy smile, and a keen palate for Italian wine. Like many New Mexicans, he isn't from New Mexico and found himself here by happenstance on a short visit that turned a vacation site into home.
